Knowing what happens inside the weld
Laser welding is a closed process: you cannot tell from the outside of a part whether the seam is sound. That is exactly why process control belongs to it. LPKF offers two layers: TherMoPro inspects the result thermographically, and WeldOS with its WeldApps handles control, set-up and data recording.
Both are available on the stand-alone machines and on the systems for integration. Plastima helps with the choice and the configuration.
TherMoPro – thermographic weld seam control
![]() |
TherMoPro takes a heat picture of every part directly after welding and turns it into a heat map. An LPKF algorithm compares that heat map against a reference standard and defined process limits. The result is 100 percent non-destructive inspection, without extra cycle time. The system can be added after the welding process in existing installations: in a conveyor belt line, in a rotary table system or in a stand-alone machine. Irregularities show up immediately, so you can intervene when material or process conditions change, which reduces scrap. Technical features:

WeldOS and WeldApps – control and data recording
A laser welding system is more than hardware. WeldOS is the welding operating system for the machine and all its relevant components: toolings, data interface communication and part handling. It covers all functions needed for proper and safe operation.
On top of that you choose individual WeldApps for what you need: contour management, process monitoring or data traceability. So you configure only what your process actually requires.
Technical features:
- WeldApp ScannerControl: fast upload of welding contours and intuitive adjustment of path position and scan speed
- WeldApp Monitoring: process visualisation, collapse distance over time, envelope curves and pyrometer signal for radial welding
- WeldApp ContourManagement: automatic recipe selection based on the assembled welding tool
- WeldApp Traceability: traceable storage of the welding result for each part
- Expandable: LPKF adds new WeldApps regularly
