Beyond the standard machine

Not every welding application fits a standard machine. From the modular system of Herrmann Ultraschall, Plastima assembles combinations that slot easily into existing production processes — from a handheld welder for prototypes to a fully integrated punching and sealing system.

Even for the most demanding applications these combinations deliver a controlled weld process and a consistent result.

MPW – punching and sealing in one step

MPW BT ultrasonic punching and sealing system from Herrmann Ultraschall

The ultrasonic punching and sealing system MPW (Modular Punch Welding) punches and seals membranes in a single production step at an operating frequency of 35 kHz. Expensive pre-cut membranes are no longer needed. The system is particularly suited to membranes that are welded into plastic components as pressure balancing elements (PBE).

The MPW combines four automated functions: punching the membrane from the tape, fixing by vacuum, sealing with ultrasonics and cycling the tape onward. Available as a manual work station (MPW BT) or as an integration solution for automation lines (MPW IS).

Technical features:

  • Operating frequency 35 kHz, cycle time from 1.5 s
  • MPW BT: robust manual work station with two-hand start
  • MPW IS: space-saving integration into automation systems
  • Process visualisation, tolerance and vacuum monitoring
  • Operation via 8.4" touchscreen

HSG – handheld ultrasonic welder

HSG handheld ultrasonic welder from Herrmann Ultraschall

The simplest way to weld thermoplastics with ultrasonics is a portable handheld welder. The HSG suits prototype building, one-offs, low volume production and repairs — whether spot welding, reshaping, staking or cutting.

Its ergonomic design and low weight allow fatigue-free work. The DYNAMIC digital control 1000 M generator with time, energy and power switch-off minimises handling variation and delivers repeatable weld results. Welder and sonotrode are stored safely in the HSG MobileCase.

Technical features:

  • Operating frequency 35 kHz, generator power 1000 W
  • Suitable for all common 35 kHz sonotrodes
  • Amplitude programmable from 70 to 100%
  • 16 storable weld programs
  • Quickly retrofitted with a built-in multi-finger switch

Component sets for packaging machines

Ultrasonic component set with converter, booster, sonotrode and anvil

Component sets are the basis for integrating ultrasonics into packaging systems. They are standardised tool combinations of sonotrode and anvil, optimised for the specific sealing application and tried and tested in the market many times.

The components are installed in the sealing station of the packaging machine via clearly defined interfaces. Herrmann Ultraschall supports the route from first sketch to start-up; Plastima handles coordination and service in the Benelux.

Technical features:

  • Cross seal sets: reliable sealing despite product residues in the seal area, for horizontal and vertical bag machines
  • Top seal sets: intermittent sealing of top seals, for example on stand-up pouches with liquid, powder or paste feed materials
  • Zipper sets: continuous and intermittent embedding of zippers, crushing of the zipper ends and production of the final seal
  • Capsule sets: embedding filter material in the base of tea and coffee capsules or sealing a film lid after filling
