Stand-alone machines at Plastima

A stand-alone system contains everything needed to weld: laser source, control, cooling and clamping technology in one laser class 1 housing. The operator loads the part, the machine does the rest. Especially for low and mid volume production this is the most practical set-up.

All systems run on LPKF WeldOS and can be extended with TherMoPro for thermographic inline inspection of the weld seam. Plastima supplies, installs and services the machines and tests your application in advance at the Tech Center in Breda.

PowerWeld 3600 – compact cell with rotary table

LPKF PowerWeld 3600 stand-alone laser welding machine

Compact stand-alone laser welding machine for small to medium components, with a servo-electric rotary table for higher output: loading happens outside the welding cell while welding continues inside. The PowerWeld 3600 is the successor to the well-known PowerWeld 2600.

All components sit in a single CE-compliant laser class 1 housing. The double-clamp module welds two parts in one cycle; combined with a safety light curtain this raises the output rate by around 25 percent.

Technical features:

  • Working area 178 × 130 mm with single clamp module
  • Diode laser 980 nm up to 320 W, air-cooled
  • Clamping force up to 3,200 N pneumatic, up to 3,000 N servo (bottom-up)
  • Servo-electric clamp module works independently of compressed air
  • Optional TherMoPro, safety light curtain and integrated marking laser

PowerWeld 3D 8000 – the largest components

LPKF PowerWeld 3D 8000 laser welding machine for large 3D plastic parts

High-performance stand-alone system for laser welding the largest plastic components: up to 1,000 × 750 mm with 400 mm height variation. Applications include tail lights, dashboards and battery modules for electric vehicles.

The system uses a fibre laser with LPKF Wobble-Weld: during quasi-simultaneous welding, additional amplitudes are superimposed onto the laser beam orthogonal to the feed direction. Weld seam width is adjustable between 1 and 5 mm with a homogeneous temperature distribution, giving a short cycle time and a robust process. Eight independent servo drives clamp bottom-up up to 20 kN and compensate local tolerances; integrated melt travel monitoring safeguards quality.

Technical features:

  • Welding area 1,000 × 750 × 400 mm
  • Seam width 1 – 5 mm adjustable via Wobble-Weld
  • Laser power scalable from 400 to 1,600 W
  • Clamping force up to 20 kN single, 2 × 10 kN double
  • Smaller welding ribs possible thanks to precise weld zone dimensioning

ATA – welding absorbing to absorbing plastics

LPKF ATA laser welding machine for absorbing plastics

Until now laser transmission welding required a transmissive upper part. With ATA technology (Absorbing to Absorbing) LPKF joins two laser-absorbing plastics. That brings the advantages of laser welding — process stability, cleanliness, localised energy input and fast cycle times — to a far wider range of materials, colours and properties.

The compact stand-alone machine moves and clamps the part quickly (patent pending) for optimised cycle times, and controls the process before welding via TherMoPro and during clamping on force and melt travel.

Technical features:

  • Also suitable for complex 3D geometries and darker colours
  • Laser welding working field up to 400 × 300 mm, larger fields on request
  • Laser power from 2 to 4 lasers
  • Clamping force up to 14 kN
  • Process set up with LPKF ProSeT 3D, control with LPKF WeldOS
